Hanley's Peerless Ale: Hanley's Peerless Ale was known for its smooth flavor, rather than any bite.   James Hanley of Providence, Rhode Island, decided to brew ale after many year as a liquor store owner.   To stand out amid stiff competition from other local berweries, Hanley enlisted the help of a loveable bulldog and the motto, "Allways Dependable.  Just like man's best friend."  This assured drinkers that Hanley's Peerless Ale was a superior product made with the finest unadulterated ingredients.  Hanley's beloved mascot represented the company year in and year out until it drew its last ale in 1957.
