Iroquois Brewing Company: Iroquois Brewery was successor to the Jacob Roos Brewery, founded in 1842. After prohibition, it became the largest brewer in Buffalo, with 600,000 barrels/year. In the 1950s, Iroquois merged with other regional brewers creating a national network under the name International Brewing Co. Iroquois was taken independent again in 1965. At the time of its closing in 1971, Iroquois had outlived all other Buffalo breweries except for one. The Iroquois brand name was highly regarded in the Lake Erie region and kept alive for quite a number of years by a succession of regional brewers.
