Kings Brewery, Inc.
Brooklyn, NY (1890 - 1938)

King's Beer & Ale: In 1890, the Frederick Hower Brewing Co. was established in Brooklyn, but renamed the
Excelsior Brewing Co. in 1896.  The plant closed with Prohibition, but in 1923, the brewery made illegal beer
and sold through Jack "Legs" Diamond to speakeasies. The feds closed the operation in 1930.  When
Prohibition ended, the brewery was modernized and renamed Kings Brewery, Inc. Brewing resumed  under the
motto "Kings Beer - Fit For a King." In the mid-1930’s,  Kings Beer sold at four beers for 25¢, the lowest
priced bottle beer on the market.  In December 1935, the Kings Brewery was the first brewer in New York City
to offer beer in cans. The Kings Brewery closed down in April 1938.
